Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians

How to Become an Evaluator

The SPRAT Evaluator is at the heart of the certification process. This group ensures our industry is staffed with technicians who have demonstrated the highest level of skill and professionalism available. Using their diverse background and experience gained from years of conducting rope access activities, each Evaluator offers a fair and objective review of the skills demonstrated by candidates.

Below is a list of requirements you will need to achieve to be considered for an Evaluator position:

1. Experience – Each Evaluator candidate must possess a Level III Technician certification for at least 6 months prior to applying.
2. Membership – You must be a member of SPRAT in good standing.
3. Additional Certifications – You must have a current First Aid/CPR certification
4. Complete an Application – You will need to submit an application for review by the Evaluations Committee. In addition, you must provide:
a. Professional Resume
b. Copy of your logbook showing a minimum of 1,000 hours of experience
c. Written recommendation from 2 current SPRAT Evaluators
d. Current fee

Once you have submitted all of the above documentation, the Evaluations Committee will review your application and issue a decision. If approved, you will be asked to complete the following:

1. Attend an Evaluator Workshop – You will receive an Orientation and additional training designed to aid in your success. A current SPRAT Evaluator will conduct the workshop and report back to the Evaluations Committee.
2. Complete a Written Test – You must score 80% or higher in order to be considered further.
3. Conduct a Certification Session – You must conduct a certification session under the supervision of a current SPRAT Evaluator. While you will be evaluating at least two candidates in accordance with SPRAT’s testing procedures, your performance will be assessed by the SPRAT Evaluator of Record. Additionally, the Evaluator of Record shall be responsible for the final results of the certification session. The Evaluator of Record will submit a record of the Certification Session, along with an evaluation of your performance, to the Evaluations Committee for review.

The Evaluations Committee will meet once all of the documentation has been received by SPRAT. You will be notified once the Committee has reached a decision concerning your application.

Of course, you can always give us a call or send us an e-mail if you have any questions about this process, or if you would like more information.
